"May the Netflix be with you."

In all seriousness, though, I am highly impressed with Netflix and love that out of all businesses to be scarily clever, they are. I am a lover of art and the fact they distribute and create it makes me love them. Though sleaze-bag marketers are my least favorite people, using psychology against the masses to get them to buy junk, I do appreciate when those marketing, rhetorical, psychological powers are used for something at least sort of good. Yeah, of course Netflix is still a company that wants to make money so they’re not saints or anything, but the things they’re selling aren't all that bad. People need more beauty and art and happiness in their lives. I’m happy Netflix can sort of give people that.
As all projects in this major do, my final conclusion is basically that rhetoric and psychology are everywhere and mean everything. Understanding why something rhetorical works or doesn’t is half the battle when trying to make something marketable and desirable. Though I'm pretty certain I’ll never be a corporate person myself, I do know I’d love to do a lot of freelance work and I will always want to write books and knowing how to make myself marketable and desirable is an invaluable skill. I am so pleased that Professional Writing can give me that.
Netflix is a testament to great growth, use of rhetoric, and brilliant design work. They are a great model for future companies. Know what you’re doing and who you want to reach out to and go from there. It’s kind of beautiful to look back and see their growth from Blockbuster knock-off to an empire. Netflix is younger than me, which totally inspires me to think I can do whatever I want if I put my mind to it and think cleverly. Granted it’s a whole company and I’m a single person, but it gives me hope and that’s all I can ask for. Now after such a long-winded project, I think I’m going to take a break, cuddle up with a soft blanket, and watch some Netflix. |
